Career Pathway:
A Career Pathway is a coherent, articulated sequence of rigorous academic and career/technical courses, commencing in the ninth grade and leading to:
- An associate degree
- Baccalaureate degree and beyond
- An industry recognized certification and/or licensure
The PATHWAY is developed, implemented and maintained in partnership among secondary and postsecondary education, business, and employers. A Career Pathway is available to all students including adult learners.
Core Indicators:
- Aligned with the skills needs of industry
- Follows CTE Industry Standards
- Includes Secondary, adult education and post secondary education options including registered apprenticeships
- Leads to the attainment of industry recognized degree or credential

Program of Study:
A Program of Study is a planned sequence of courses designed by the Hart School District in a recognized CTE Career Pathway providing career preparation consisting of:
- Instruction based on recommended standards and knowledge and skills
- Coursework and co-curricular activities
- Worksite learning, service learning, and other learning experiences
Core Indicators:
- Includes an introductory, a concentrator, and a capstone course as a requirement
- Should include a Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO)
- Follow CTE Industry Standards
- Duel enrollment opportunities with the local community college
Elective Concentration (Course of Study):
An Elective Concentration is a four or more non-CTE elective classes in one area of concentration such as Drama, Choral Music, Band; and Journalism.
Core Indicators:
- Elective courses not requiring an exploratory or capstone class
- Taught by non-CTE credentialed teachers
- No articulation agreements

Career Academy:
A Career Academy is like a school within a school. Academies combine college-preparatory and CTE curriculum with a career theme (such as healthcare, business and finance or engineering). Local employers are critical to career academies and provide career awareness and work-based learning opportunities for their students.
Core Indicators:
- Academy specific Program of Study for 2-4 years
- Team of teachers/leaders
- College-prep classes infused with career themes
- Project based learning
- Common teacher planning time
A Career Academy is like a school within a school. Academies combine college-preparatory and CTE curriculum with a career theme (such as healthcare, business and finance or engineering). Local employers are critical to career academies and provide career awareness and work-based learning opportunities for their students.
